I am a Melbourne artist / illustrator with extensive experience with art exhibitions and large-scale sculpture -
installations within London. I have also worked in Central Park, New York City, and within the salt flats north of Kalgoolie, Western Australia, with experimental installations.
My early background was as an elite coded welder, working with colossal steel shapes while employed as a shipbuilder
in Glasgow. Most of the ships I helped build were massive bulk carriers for the gulf states during the seventies.
This experience prepared me for my later work as a sculptor.I also studied fine art printmaking at the Glasgow Print Studio, becoming involved in all aspects of printmaking, including etching, screenprinting, lithography and relief linocuts. During this time I first began to seriously study / evolve my own unique style of figurative / abstract painting.
On moving to Paris I further developed my own theory on pure abstraction and conceptual art, and helped build a riverboat for Eurodisney. In Paris, I lived just off the Moulin Rouge and painted colourful imagery directly from the streets, cafes, and bars, of the city. I had three exhibitions during my stay in that amazing place.
Returning to London, I developed a focus for ceramics, and became inspired by the purity of Japanese Raku. This led me into the world of experimental casting with molded polymers, metal and glass. Most of these projects were related to my series of performance-based installations. I also received generous sponsorship for these sculptures from three companies in London. I still have unfinished long term projects with large kinetic / sculptures that I would like to install as installations in Australia.
I am now involved and working on a new exhibition with new naive paintings, created on photoshop and then hand transfered to acrylic on canvas. I constantly use illustration and polymer toy design as a method to generate new ways of thinking about all the history and imagery of the world. Also colour technology in a digital mac format has made the entire process instantaneous with an infinity of possibilites. My wide-ranging skills involve elements of comics / graphic novels, character toy / design, and editorial illustration. I will hopefully be moving more into digital sequential formats very soon within TRUE6.COM
